Google can now translate Assamese, Mizo, and Manipuri

Google has announced the addition of 24 new languages including eight Indian languages to Google Translate. This was announced at its annual developer conference Google I/O 2022 on May 11. Google Translate now supports 133 languages around the globe.

Among these 24 newly added languages, three language from the Northeast region are included, namely, Assames, Mizo, and Meiteilon (Manipuri).

Here are the stats from Google’s estimations of popularity worldwide for these three languages.

  1. Assamese, is used by about 25 million people in Northeast India
  2. Meiteilon (Manipuri), used by about two million people in Northeast India
  3. Mizo, used by about 830,000 people in Northeast India
