Guwahati, June 13: An Assamese couple, presently based in the United Kingdom, Bhargab Sarma and his wife Dr Samyami Chowdhury Sarma were recently invited to a prestigious garden party at the Buckingham Palace – the London residence and administrative headquarters of the monarch of the United Kingdom.
Every year, the Queen hosts three parties at the Buckingham Palace and one in Holyroodhouse as a way to recognize and reward public service.
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh, accompanied by other members of the Royal Family, speak to a broad range of people from all walks of life making a positive impact on their community.
The Assamese couple got the invitation to the garden party at the Palace on June 5 last.
Apart from their professional careers, the duo has been actively involved in philanthropic activities.
Assam born Bhargab is an award-winning London-based corporate banker. He is also an ardent writer and has been working for rhino conservation worldwide.
Born and raised in England, Dr Samyami is a paediatrician by profession. She along with her parents is engaged in popularising Assamese culture abroad. She is also actively involved with charities, including the National Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Children and The Brain Tumour Charity.
