Guwahati, June 14: After the sensational mob lynching incident in Karbi Anglong, another similar nerve wrecking incident has come to light in Dima Hasao.
As per reports, a woman on suspicion of being a child-lifter was reportedly killed by a group of miscreants in central Assam’s Haflong under Dima Hasao district.
The victim hailed from Umrongso and the decayed corpse was recovered from a jungle in Garo basti under Panimur Police Outpost on Tuesday.
The victim has been identified to be a Nepali woman.
Following the incident, the police have picked up seven accused in relation with the case. However, the prime accused is still on the run.
Speaking to TIME8, Dima Hasao superintendent of police Prasanta Saikia, said “The victim was a mentally challenged woman and was missing since June 8. On June 11, a missing complaint was filed by the family members. On June 12, we recovered the body and seven persons have been picked up so far for being involved in the crime.”
Saikia further added, “During the interrogation, it has come to light that the woman was killed on suspicion of being a child-lifter. Further interrogations are on. We will probe all angles; there might be other reasons behind the murder too.”
