Guwahati/Majuli, June 21: Tension prevailed in Upper Majuli’s Muwamari village after several woman and children fell sick by consuming prasad chickpea (boot-mah) leading to food poising.
Around 21 women and 7 children were reported to have been in shifted to Gormur Civil Hospital as they started to vomit and feel sick immediately after consuming the chickpeas.
Sources informed that few of the women were in a very serious condition and they were being treated under the supervision of Dr Manik Mili who is also the superintendent of the Gormur Civil Hospital.
Three child specialist doctors and three doctors from Community Health Centre are being appointed in the region to monitor the cases.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Majuli, Chinmoy Nath visited the region on the priority basis to look into the situation.
Meanwhile, a team under the District Health Department had reached the place and had been investigating into the matter.
