Guwahati, June 24: In a sensational incident, a suspected human organ trade racket was busted by the Police in Guwahati on Sunday.
As per sources, in the year 2016, two persons identified as Manab Kamal Sharma and Parag Sharma conned a person from Moran by claiming that a kidney was needed for a lady and in return, they would pay him handsomely. They allegedly bought his kidney but they gave him a cheque that bounced later.
The donor had agreed to a deal of Rs 6 lakh for his kidney but the two accused handed him over Rs 1 lakh in cash and issued him a cheque of Rs 5 lakh which was supposed to be withdrawn by the donor after the kidney transplant. The person was taken to a private hospital in Kolkata for the transplant.
After the transplant was done when the victim tried to withdraw the cash from the bank, the bank officials told him that the signature in the cheque was forged. Following this, the victim filed an FIR against the duo at Dispur Police station but both of them disappeared after that.
After almost two years, the police finally succeeded to nab them on Saturday based on some inputs.
The primary investigation has indicated that both of them might be actively involved in organ trade in the city. The police are currently interrogating both of them at the Dispur Police Station.
